What to Wear Wednesdays: Pink

When I was a little girl I had only one Barbie that I adored. I had a few others, not many, but they didn't last long as women, as I gave them all a pixie cut to resemble boys. I am not sure what a Psychologist would say about that...
My mom: "My daughter likes to turn her Barbies into boys. She also dislikes dresses, brushing her hair and I have the hardest time getting her to sit and concentrate on a craft. Instead she is outside in the woods all day doing who knows what and coming home covered in mud. What should I do Doctor?"
Psychologist: "Nothing, let her be who she wants to be...a dreamer."
Okay, sorry about that...I was lost in the clouds of my youth. So, anyway the Barbie I loved was...

Day to Night Barbie

I loved the versatility of her outfit. Reverse the skirt, take off the jacket, switch to designer shoes and voila she was ready to party! Of course, I never liked the hat...I mean who wears a hat like that to work? But, everything else fit neatly into my idea of reusing what you have...even as a child stuff overwhelmed me!

So in honor of my Day to Night Barbie and Valentine's Day here are my very pinkalicious vintage outfits of the week (full disclosure...couldn't find a sequin second hand top, so the pale pink shell is not second hand)...

and for an evening soiree...

What to Wear Wednesdays

This is what I wore to my husband's holiday party, every item is second hand, except the tights...

 

The shirt was given to me by a friend over 5 years ago...it has been the most versatile shirt I own. Being an older shirt circa early nineties I presume, it is very short waisted, so ideal for under dresses or with high pencil skirts. The skirt was purchased at a fabulous consignment store, Current Boutique for under $30. The mary jane Cole Haan shoes were also bought at Current Boutique and they are my current favorites, mostly because my one cat has taken a liking to chewing on my dress shoes...bad kitty!

And last, but not least the necklace is vintage and was given to me by my mother-in-law. It was a gift from my father-in-law to her 35 years ago. I am so blessed to have both her. She treats me with so much love and respect. I love her dearly! Thanks Djamilah!! 

And yes I changed Fresh Quince's background....ahhhhgain! Pink it's whats for dinner ;)!

Fridays Finest

Domino

Jeanine Hays, of AphroChic, recently posted about this Domino image, stating that it was the inspirational photo that launched AphroChic.  And I remember it fondly...the cheerful chairs, clean lines, white walls mixed with a few antiques and the adorable little girl. Anyway, it now has inspired me to do a Craigslist Finest post on it. All of the comparable's below are on DC's Craigslist and if you would like the link, just post a comment...

Gorgeous mirrored coffee cross table $300 (i love this coffee table and because it looks too dark i would spray paint it in silver...metallic spray paints don't come in low voc, so please remember to spray outside)

Crate and Barrel Sofa $550 (almost the exact match...can you see it???)

Solid Organic Cotton Pillow from Fabricadabra on sale for $25 (fabricadabra carries fabulous inexpensive organic pillow covers)

Pair of French Provincial Armchairs $380/pair (a few coats of Ben Moore Dove White will transform these chairs...remember to do it before you take it to the upholsters)

Re-upholster the above chairs in Rubie Green East Village Upholstery Fabric $90/yard (instead of stripes...how about fun chevron and you will only need about 4 yards or less)

Silhoutte Black and White $90 (AphroChic's awesome pillows will add some comfort to the chairs above)

Wooden Table Lamp $5 (uh...incredible price, just get rid of the shade and buy a black drum shade)

Spray paint the above lamp in this:

Krylon H20 Yellow Sea Spray Paint $4.99/can (the H2O line is lower in VOC and I use it all of the time b/c it doesn't smell as bad and is latex based, instead of oil like all spray paint)

Fun and Modern Chandelier $129 (not exactly like the one above, but totally cool don't you think?)

Large Silver/White Mirror $75 (simple and clean...excellent accompaniment to the rest of the space and great price)

Rugs: It is rather difficult to find good rugs on Craigslist, so I would recommend a cotton or wool rug in lieu synthetic.

Madeline Weinrib Golden Rod Cotton Rug (okay, since you have saved a fortune from buying on CL, then why not spend a pretty penny on a gorgeous Madeline Weinrib rug...need to contact for details)

West Elm Andalusia Rug 8 x 10 $459 cotton/wool (a fairly inexpensive comparable)

And for the wall art, how about a hot pink feather boa spun around a piece of round cardboard.
