Me Mum and Red

February is the my mother's birth month and her favorite color happens to be RED, so fitting...

An avid cook, while working full time my mother went to Cordon Bleu in London. She would bring home delicacies like cooked eel, frogs legs and escargot. Mmmm mmm, what's for dinner tonight? Joking aside, my palette for food is wide and varied due to her limitless cuisine.

Henri Matisse

She taught me to use what I have and if I don't like it, then reinvent it! Put trim on those old curtains or stamp them with fabric paint!

She taught me to read and appreciate a multitude of books, although this took years for me to cultivate...I was a hands-on learner and needed to be outside doing something or inside creating.

She taught me the importance of presentation...if you cut up an apple, everyone will eat it!
House Beautiful

She taught me to love and appreciate other cultures and incorporate what you enjoy about them into your decor and ideas. We have objet d'art and furniture from all the places we stayed overseas throughout our homes.

She taught me to sit back, relax, don't sweat the small stuff and remember to smell the roses! Although, I might say this does not come easily to either of us, as we suffer from a serious case of worrywortitus, but one can hope for change right?

Mom...I love you! Happy Birthday and Happy Valentines Day!

Do you all like red? If not, why? I am always so interested in how people perceive color. Why do we love some colors and abhor others? Next week stop by as my mom will be posting weekly with a fun take on color through the decades of her memory!!!

  1. i always like red on furniture for a pop of color, but i find in my own house i tend to get sick of it fast. i had it in my last house and it wore on me, so this house- no red except for the playroom and my son's room! :) my mom was also born in february- what a great month!

  3. Red has always been a colour associated with luck, life and fortune for the Chinese and I would love to have this colour in my house! The trick is to balance it - something I don't really know how to do, so I tend to go with the safe route!
