Upcycled Cards and a Glitter Star

Every year I receive many cards and I keep them all, so I end up with stacks and stacks of cards...

I am unable to put them in the recycling bin ever. Every card I receive makes me feel so loved to know that my Aunt, friend, or the bank ;) has thought of me during the holidays. So, instead of recycling them, I upcycle them. Sometimes I cut them in various shapes and make new cards, last year I cut them in the shape of trees and glued them on to colorful card stock. This year I made a garland...

I just stapled two circle cut outs back to back on jute. It's sweet, simple and I think looks lovely on my tree, especially with the newest handmade tree ornament by my son...

Glitter will make it all better!
I have had this star ornament for years, but have always felt that it didn't match my home because it is a tad country (not that there is anything wrong with that, I have friends that are into country decor)...

So, the other day I decided to break out the glue and glitter and this is the end result...

Holy Glitter Batman!

I know none of this is new or innovative, but I sometimes feel that people throw stuff out before thinking about reusing...a simple brush of paint, addition of glitter and voila you have something new that matches! As a side note...the lattice is a 200 year old screen  from Istanbul and it was used then to cover Muslim women from onlookers in the street. My parents bought it when we lived there and I have always loved it. So when my mom gave it to me a few years ago, I was ecstatic!!!

Hope you're staying warm and happy!!!

  4. Danielle, I absolutely love your card garland, too. I was just about to throw away my Christmas cards! Thanks for the inspiration. I can't wait to do this with my 7 year-old daughter.
