DIY Fail?

I purchased the lamps below at a flea market 6 years ago. They've been trusty bedside lamps until recently when I moved them into my living room for extra lighting (please excuse the terrarium...I have no other spot that gets enough sun for my son's scorpions).

After the move I decided the shades weren't right, so I thought...paint them gold.

Off to Michael's....I like Martha Stewart's paint selection. While Max, my little monkey, kept busy with his blocks, I painted. I was really liking the warm sheen initially, but then disaster strikes. Do you think I'd do a small test section first? Not I said the fly...instead half way through painting said shade I turn on the lamp. Yikes! It looks like a serious case of lampshade mange (see way below)!

So now, do I just hide the ugly side like it never happened or do I try to repair the botched job?!? Hmmm, we'll see. I'm leaning toward moving forward...

Below are samples of the gorgeous vintage items she carries...a lot are out of my price range, but a girl can dream. I was surprised that there weren't any seahorses ;).

Um...Seahorse

Okay I promise not to post about seahorses again, especially during the holidays. While everyone else is sharing holiday scenes, I'm over here sourcing seahorses. Funny thing is...I am seriously not a big fan of them in interiors. I just find them fascinating. So this is it..promise.

I spotted the image of the breakfast nook below on Pinterest. Madeline Weinrib had shared it a few days ago and I was like...how did you know, Ms. Weinrib, that I'm strangely drawn to these creatures? I adore her fabrics and textiles...that is her rug in the image. And the seahorse table is quite divine actually.

The fabric is from Spoonflower...please forgive me for not remembering the seller. It's cute though...no?

Okay, so maybe I do like seahorses in interiors!

Hope everyone is well! I think after this post I'm off to donate to Oceana.

What Do You See?

After I posted about seahorses the other day I see them everywhere now. Below is a patio by Doug & Gene Meyer and taken by Jason Schmidt. The wallpaper is designed by Terrence Payne at Hygge and West...wouldn't it be sweet in a kids bathroom?

Seahorse Seahorse

I know this is odd, but does anyone like seahorses in design? I love them in nature...so mythical and elegant. They're one of the creatures hardest hit by acidification. I had an idea years ago...what if we donated to a cause for every image we use from nature? For the seahorse...we donate to Oceana. For zebra printed rugs...we donate to WWF and Rainforest Alliance. Why Rainforest Alliance? Well the rugs are printed on cowhides, which are raised mostly in Brazil. They need land, so guess what gets cut down to raise them....yup rain forests. The only image I really like below is the pink one...how about you?
