  4. Danielle,

Your nursery is fabulous. I love-love the stencil, the lamp you painted, the framed book covers, etc., etc., etc! Your sweet baby is gonna love his room :)

  5. I saw the winners listed. You should be proud that you made the top ten. You might have scored higher if that corner didn't look so awkward (you need a piece of trim). But let's face it, most of those others looked like they were done by experienced pros!

  6. Hi Danielle - only finding this now...otherwise I would have voted for your beautiful and very inventive nursery. Does Apt. Therapy do this every year? I am going to be doing a nursery for my daughter who is expecting in April. I can't wait!!! Both for the baby girl...and to do the nursery!

As a professional decorative artist, what I do when I am stenciling corners is I buy two stencils - one to use in the regular way...and the other to cut up so that it is manageable in the corners. When I put the cut up stencil in the corner, I have to use a lot of stencil adhesive (gasp) but that's the only time I use it. Then I take a straight edge or even an old credit card and I place that in the corner so that the cut up stencil will stay straight! You do one side first and then the other side. Maybe I will post a pic of a powder room that I did in my house where I had to do an embossed stencil through a curve. Now - that was a super pain in the you know what!!! Thank goodness for stencil adhesive (gasp).

Check out Melanie Royals stencil site - Royal Design Studio. She has a lot of great tips and tricks on her site.

Great job - congrats that you made it into the top ten!!

  7. Thanks so much for your helpful tips Linda, but I actually like the corners like they are...it gives a more hand made appeal and I love that. I didn't want it to look like wall paper because after working on it for 15 hours, I want it to show. But maybe I'll change my mind in a year, so thanks for the info! Danielle
