Art Deco on CL

Here's just a petite sampling of Art Deco pieces currently for sale...

I am madly in love with the desk above. I see it in a deep velvety green office with loads of builtin bookshelves and oil paintings.

Perfect for a dressing table.

Perfect lamp for the desk above.

Again I adore the mirror above, although the dude in the mirror is another story.

Slipper chair perfection above.

Anyone need an entry armoire?

I think the peice above needs a new round mirror made for it. It's super sculptural and would add a lot of interest to a large entry.

The wood on this bookshelf is lovely...no!?!

Okay, maybe not petite sampling, but great examples. I think this era single handedly deforested tigerwood, which is just a name for several varieties of tropical trees in Africa and South America...kinda sad really.

Art Deco Love

For awhile now I've been coveting everything Art Deco. I think it all started around 5 years ago when I went to my cousin Amy's wedding in Erie Pennslyvania. Amy had her ceremony in an old Lutheran church my father's family used to attend, which was beautiful in its own right. But it was the reception location that blew my mind. It was over the top in only the way Art Deco decor could be. The Warner Theater, commissioned by the Warner Bros., was built in 1929 in the height of the Art Deco period. It is a true visual marvel with amazing attention to detail that we don't see anymore. It is where my parents went to see movies for 25 cents...can you believe that? They thought nothing of the ornate decor, it was just a movie theatre to them. But now they know it's so much more than just a theatre, it's a magical example of a bygone era.

I went there twice for Amy's wedding and my other cousin Julie's wedding and do you think I took one single photo!?! Nope not one, but the place has left it's enchanting spell on me.
