So here are my favorites on Craigslist in the DC Metropolitan area...

Glass/Brass Round Coffee Table and End Table $750 {i think one of these would be enough as a room can't handle too much fabulousness.}

Brass Chandelier $500 {a little traditional for my taste, but still very pretty}

Vintage Club Chairs and Lamp $30 {great price. you could also possibly wait on re-upholstery if the fabric is fine}

Antique Dressing Table $175 {gorgeous and price is right for an antique}...

Yellow Velvet Retro Chairs $350 {looks like they are in good condition, no need to reupholster possibly}

Fun Yellow French Dresser $190 {love this dresser and 10% proceeds go to a family in need whose daughter has cancer http://mylifeline.org/JulietFoster/ }

Design*Sponge featured the lovely dresser below months ago, which reminds me of the dresser above...

Antique Mirror $60 {how cool would this look above your sleek modern entry console}

Bedroom Set for Sale $100 {thanks Joan for sharing this with me the other day. incredible price for so many gorgeous pieces.}

Set of 6 Antique Occasional Tables $350 {first of all i love that they form a hexagon. second that tiger wood is just so stunning. third the price is right for this fabulous set. fourth if i had the money and space they would be mine. fifth i just wanted to say fifth}

Mid Century Italian Candelabrum $200 {it is just one. what does one do with one ;)? put it above a fireplace possibly}

Whatever one decides to do, I highly recommend you not put it above your bed like the people on CL did. Candles, wax and a heavy Candelabrum right above your head? I don't think so..

French/Italian Rococco Table $125 {let's put this in our sun room shall we}

Antique Coffee Table $25 {wow what a bargain and perfect for a small living room}

Antique Pair of French Ormolu Beds $1000 {yes expensive, but my guess is that they are worth a lot more and think how much you could spend on beds from Pottery Barn that aren't made out of solid hard wood. and these are just stunning.}...

Just look at that wood, if you painted these I would cry...

Spring Brings my 6th Month Mark

Today I have officially been blogging for six months and I have enjoyed every minute of it, especially receiving all of your kind comments. Blogging has given me a wonderful outlet to share my obsessions and interests, particularly my Craigslist segments. Thanks so much everyone for following, liking and just coming along for the ride! To celebrate a bouquet of my favorite Spring flower is in order...

Also this morning I'm attending the Washington Design Center and Home & Design Magazine's press preview sneak peak of 2011's DREAMHOME with my friend Claudine...I see a post in the near future. I'm hoping to get a glance at environmentally minded designs and to meet the creative people behind the images that I am inspired by. I am also happy to know that 100% of the admission proceeds will be benefiting The Department of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center...how wonderful!  

Color Recall: The 1980's

The following is number four in the series called color recall written by my mother...

COLOR RECALL

As usual, our family spent most of the 1980s abroad.

I do recall mauve and a grayed blue (what we still thought of as Williamsburg blue) were extremely popular at the time.

With deep regret I recall an interior decorating project with my sister during the early 80’s.  She had recently moved back into the house we grew up in.  A pre-civil war dwelling, it was one of the oldest houses in our small northern town.  Because of the previously mentioned design trend, we got into our heads that the wainscoting in what had been our family dining room should be updated.  What we failed to take into consideration was that our plan involved tampering with an original (historic) cherry finish.  This is a task only the seriously deranged would undertake.   With scrapers and paint remover in hand, we painstakingly removed all the original finish and then painted the wainscoting off-white.  This color, coordinated (in our minds) much better with the new highly sought after mauve-blue decorating scheme of the rest of the house.  Our mother, who had passed away many years before, would have never forgiven us—and adding insult to injury she HATED blue…and I wonder why so many years later we even considered doing such a thing as we  both value “old things”.  My house is full of vintage furniture and hers is bursting at the seams with country memorabilia .    But none the less, we bowed to a theme that never really appealed to me -- I am not much for pastel colors and neither is she—but one that seemed feminine and ultra modern.

My sister and I have grown older and wiser, but we will never forget growing up in a home, reputed to be a rest home for soldiers returning from the Civil War,  and both of us still make our living space part of ourselves.  The comparison between the city mouse (me) and country mouse (her) is the subject of a separate posting.  I’ll also tell you more about our old house--that is if Fresh Quince will give her mother another opportunity to revisit the past.

Thanks once again mom! What do you all recall about the 80's? As for myself I have a distaste for light grey, pale blue and pink together but I've found a few images that make the color combinations a little more palatable to my modern aesthetic...
